Introduction

Ternaknesia, a digital platform for livestock investment and commerce, sought to improve customer engagement and app stickiness. While the platform already provided transactional features, many users engaged only during specific purchase events, resulting in inconsistent usage and limited loyalty.

Gamification was introduced as a way to make daily interactions rewarding, fun, and habit-forming.

Identifying the Opportunity

Analysis showed that customers interacted with Ternaknesia primarily during buying/selling activities. Daily active usage remained low, reducing opportunities for upselling and weakening long-term loyalty.

By leveraging gamification—check-ins, rewards, loyalty coins, and interactive mini-games—the team aimed to increase engagement, retention, and customer lifetime value.

Problem Statement

Before gamification, Ternaknesia faced three main challenges:

  1. Low Engagement Frequency
    Customers only opened the app when making transactions, not as part of a daily routine.

  2. Limited Loyalty Mechanisms
    There was no structured reward system to incentivize repeat engagement or purchasing.

  3. Lack of Fun & Emotional Connection
    The platform was functional but lacked playful elements that could strengthen emotional ties with customers.

The team designed a set of Gamification Features tailored for Ternaknesia users:

Daily Check-in Rewards

  • Customers earn 5 coins for each daily check-in.

  • Coins accumulate and can be redeemed in the Ternak Loyalty program for shopping vouchers.

  • Encourages consistent daily interaction with the app.


Loyalty Levels & Badges

  • Customers are rewarded with badges based on their engagement and activity.

  • Higher levels unlock exclusive benefits, reinforcing a sense of achievement and loyalty.


Tap-Tap Egg Mini-Game

  • A fun interactive feature where customers tap an egg animation.

  • Eggs “crack” to reveal rewards such as coins or vouchers.

  • Designed to create delight and a sense of anticipation.tructure and visual interest. This approach allows for versatility, making the visuals suitable for a wide range of modern digital applications.

    • Conducted surveys and interviews to understand what motivates customers to engage daily.

    • Identified strong interest in rewards, playful visuals, and tangible shopping benefits.

  2. User Flow & Information Architecture

    • Integrated gamification seamlessly with existing app navigation.

    • Built a clear flow

    • Designed badge progression to be visible and motivating.

  3. Wireframing & Prototyping

    • Low-fidelity wireframes validated placement of gamification features.

    • High-fidelity prototypes added animations for the Tap-Tap Egg and badge visuals.

    • Iterated with user testing to ensure clarity and fun factor.

  4. Usability Testing

    • Internal testing validated the reward system and redemption flow.

    • External testing with customers showed increased excitement for the Tap-Tap Egg mini-game.

    • Iterations improved reward visibility, coin balances, and badge progression.

  5. Handoff to Development
